ALLOPHYCOCYANIN...C-PHYCOCYANIN...B-PHYCOERYTHRIN
Thanks to their unique properties, phycobiliproteins are increasingly used as fluorescent markers.
The production of linked molecules is very easy thanks to the standard coupling methods which preserve pigments properties. Immunoglobulin, avidin, biotin, protein A, hormones, toxin, growth factors...can be linked to phycobiliprotein.
The major sectors of application are:
Immunofluorescence
Fluorescent microscopy (sorting out of
lymphocytes B and T)
Multiple marking :
- Phycoerythrin and fluorescein can be excited by
a specific wavelength (488 nm) and showing different emission spectra (580 and 528 nm).
- C-Phycocyanin, Allophycocyanin and B-Phycoerythrin can be linked up equivalently allowing a treble marking with the same excitation to 488 nm by an Argon- laser (this type of appliance is even more economical than Xenon-laser appliances).
DNA sounding line marking
Immunohistochimestry
Flow cytometry (FACS)
Advantages :
- A safe handling contrary to the radioactive sounding lines.
- A long storage in good conditions.
- No danger for the environment.
